Telecom Egypt tapped Ericsson to leverage the vendor’s technology to migrate its international gateway, in a bid to accelerate services and commence entry into the IoT market.
In a statement, Ericsson said under the agreement it will migrate the operator’s international gateway by deploying Ericsson’s Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure with Ericsson Orchestrator, in order to enhance the quality of fixed and mobile services.
The announcement heralds Telecom Egypt’s entry into the IoT market and will do so through Ericsson’s narrowband IoT-enabled software licenses. The operator will start its new venture by the end of 2020 in Cairo and Alexandria.
Adel Hamed, Telecom Egypt managing director and chief said the Egyptian market saw “rapid developments” through “increasing” customer demands.
“Therefore, we continue the development and modernisation processes that ensure that our customers get the best possible telecommunications services. We are happy to sign this agreement with our partner Ericsson. Their extensive experience in the field of international gateways will undoubtedly contribute to supporting Telecom Egypt develop and enhance its services”, said Hamed.
