Latin American data centre specialist Odata is to expand into Chile; it plans to build a new facility in Santiago.
The Data Centre Dynamics website reports that, when fully developed, the six-hectare site will house more than 40,000 square metres of data centre buildings totalling 28MW of capacity. The completion date has not been revealed.
The company says it will invest $217 million into the development and will support around 500 jobs during the construction phase and 100 jobs when the data centre is fully operational.
A second project announcement in Santiago is expected soon from Odata to meet growing demand for high-speed internet, low-latency cloud services and for IT services.
Microsoft, Huawei, Oracle, and Google all have cloud regions in development or in operation in Chile, while AWS has an Edge location in the country.
Last month Odata detailed Brazilian expansion plans in São Paulo and Rio. Construction on its Querétaro, Mexico, campus began in January 2021. The first phase is due for completion by the start of 2022.
Meanwhile, Google has acquired 30 hectares of land for a data centre in Canelones, Uruguay, though it has yet to confirm when or whether it will build on the land. Google currently has a cloud region in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and another in development in Santiago.
