Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is back in the news; this time Indonesian operator Telkomsel is announcing ambitious coverage targets for the technology.
In fact Telkomsel has now announced plans for service expansion to 230 cities in Indonesia, with a target date for completion of the end of 2021.
According to Indonesian press reports, Telkomsel believes that the expansion of the availability of VoLTE is a manifestation of its commitment to prioritizing customer-centric principles.
Of course in addition to expanding the VoLTE service coverage area, Telkomsel will be strengthening collaboration with smartphone device partners that already have a variety of products that support VoLTE technology. They include Samsung, Huawei, Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo, Advan and Evercoss. In total, there are more than 50 types of smartphones that already support Telkomsel's VoLTE service.
The development of VoLTE services is also part of Telkomsel's efforts to accelerate the transition of 2G and 3G services to 4G/LTE, which is expected in turn to accelerate the delivery of 5G services in Indonesia.
Like many operators in a number of countries, Telkomsel has been quick to tout the advantages of VoLTE, which include being able to connect calls faster and experience HD quality sound, along with smooth and fast transition from voice to video calls. In addition customers can keep calling while surfing the internet or playing games in VoLTE calling mode without worrying about the connection being lost.
