Vodafone Oman (Oman Future Telecommunications) has tapped Ericsson for its 4G and 5G core networks along with a greenfield radio access network (RAN).
The agreement places Ericsson in charge of deploying, running and maintaining the networks for Oman’s newest mobile operator, which recently received its licence. CommsUpdate reports that the vendor will supply a complete solution featuring its Ericsson Cloud Core, NFVI and Cloud VoLTE along with an end-to-end transport network solution.
Ericsson notes that this will improve both energy efficiency and therefore cost efficiency, and that the network’s layered architecture is designed to facilitate 5G from launch. Over the next five years, Ericsson will also deliver an AI-powered data-driven network to allow Vodafone to boost its customer experience.
Fadi Pharaon, President of Ericsson Middle East and Africa, said: “This collaboration will lead to Vodafone launching its new mobile broadband service and providing Oman with an additional nationwide mobile network. We are pleased to implement the latest in radio access and core technologies, as well as utilising the latest in automation, and artificial intelligence software to run the network and secure great user experience.”
