Telenor subsidiary Grameenphone has selected NEC to supply equipment for the modernisation of its network in Bangladesh.
The contract will see NEC deploy higher modulation, channel aggregation (CA) and multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems as well as traffic aggregation functions across various layers and frequency bands (microwave and millimetre bands). These technologies will help Grameenphone to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and to provide more reliable networks with higher transmission capacity.
"Utilising our network domain expertise, we aim to capitalise on the performance of NEC's equipment in order to enhance the transmission capacity of Grameenphone's networks," said Yukio Hioki, General Manager, Wireless Solution Division, NEC Corporation.
In the last 20 years, Bangladesh has benefitted immensely from the expansion of telecommunication infrastructure, and Grameenphone has contributed significantly to the country’s economic development, and currently has over 82 million subscribers in the market.
