Yahsat announces its second UAE satcoms contract win in two weeks

Yahsat Government Solutions (YGS), the dedicated government arm of Yahsat, which offers multi-mission satellite services in more than 150 countries, has been awarded a contract, whose value is estimated at US$247.5 million, to provide enhanced managed services to the UAE government for its satellite communications capabilities.

Yahsat will provide managed services for ground satellite communications services and solutions for the next five years. The agreement augments the previous operations and maintenance services provided to include technology management support from January 2022 until the end of 2026.

Yahsat has a long-standing relationship with the UAE government. It has been providing operations and maintenance services since 2011 on its first two satellites, Al Yah 1 and Al Yah 2, which form part of a 15-year capacity services agreement with the UAE government. In 2021, Yahsat was requested by the government to explore two new satellites, Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5. These are to be launched by 2026.

This agreement comes only weeks after another big contract in the UAE for YGS which, in early February, was awarded a US$6.5 million contract by Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to provide advanced and secure satellite communication services.

Yahsat will design, deliver and integrate the satellite communication systems in vessels produced by ADSB. It will work closely with ADSB, an expert in new build, repair, maintenance, refit and conversion of naval and commercial vessels, to include secure and reliable end user communications solutions using YGS’s terminal over Yahsat’s wide satellite network, which is described as ideal for naval satellite communications.
