4iG completes acquisition of rivals, claims market leadership

Hungary-based operator group 4iG claimed to be the largest telecoms provider in Albania after completing its acquisition of rival One Telecom for an undisclosed fee.

In a statement, 4iG has confirmed the Albanian Competition Authority approved its acquisition of 99.9% of indirect interest in One, and with its earlier acquisition of ALBtelecom 4iG claimed to be the market leader.

The company noted One is the second-largest operator with a portfolio of 632 towers which are 5G ready and 1.36 million subscribers which equated to 41% market share in 2021. The company claims the portfolio of all three operators complements each other with not much overlap.

4iG president and CEO Gellért Jászai said 4iG’s long term plan is to contribute to developing Albania’s digital transformation and enter into Western Balkans markets with IT solutions.

The company also acquired Digi Communications in its native Hungary in January and swooped in for Telenor Montenegro before that.
