Now Telecom had its regulatory restraints lifted and is now able to sell mobile broadband services in the Philippines.
The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) has ordered the National Telecommunications Commission to expand the operator’s telecoms license, giving it permission to provide mobile, fixed-line and fixed wireless access services, reported Manila Standard.
In a filing from ARTA, the authority stated it denied a motion from NTC and rival operator DITO Telecommunications, in which both claim Now’s license is already complete.
The resolution read: “ARTA did not rule on the rights and obligations of parties, but merely resolved the issue whether the documents submitted by NowTel (Now Telecom) are complete which will warrant an automatic approval by operation of law.”
With the new provisional license Now Telecom can use 220MHz of spectrum in the 1,970MHz-1,980MHz, alongside 2160Mhz to 2170Mhz and 3.6Ghz to 3.8Ghz, including 5G frequencies for mobile and fixed wireless.
