Satellite operator Azercosmos and teleport and data centre facility Signalhorn have entered into a partnership agreement to provide what are describe as uninterrupted, secure and high-quality satellite services throughout Africa via the C Band capacity on Azerspace-1 satellite.
Using technology from satellite technology and communication solutions provider ST Engineering iDirect, Azercosmos and Signalhorn say they will be able to contribute to state-of the-art and efficient connectivity through the Signalhorn Leuk teleport, resulting in a high degree of operational flexibility and agility.
Signalhorn says its facility in Leuk in Switzerland has visibility on dozens of satellites from 55W to 70E with C-band protection from 5G interference by the Swiss telecom regulators as well as added natural protection across all frequency bands due to local topography.
Through this partnership, Azercosmos and Signalhorn say they will provide high-quality internet connectivity and thus also provide more opportunities for humanitarian aid as well as greater connectivity options across Africa.
Commenting on the partnership, Mark Guthrie, Chief Commercial Officer at Azercosmos, says: “Our collaboration with Signalhorn strengthens our presence in the African region and will bring greater connectivity to this region with advanced, reliable and flexible solutions.”
Recent Azercosmos announcements relating to the African market include last November’s partnership with mobile satellite communications company Kymeta and InterSAT, a VSAT service provider in Africa, to deliver mobile satellite communication services across the continent.
In the same month an agreement was announced with Malaysian operator Measat Satellite Systems, under which Azercosmos will utilize all of the C-Band capacity of Azerspace-1/AFRICASAT-1a to provide satellite services throughout the African region.
