Nokia has expanded its 4G and 5G base station manufacturing capabilities by signing a partnership with Turkish electronics manufacturer Karel.
In a statement, the Finnish vendor said the companies expect to begin producing 4G base stations for the Turkish market mid this year, with local 5G base station production on the horizon, as commercial network launches from operators are expected in 2023.
Nokia noted Karel is a market leader and has one of the most advanced R&D departments in the communications electronics field in Turkey. Karel has contracts to export products and technologies to more than 30 countries.
Nokia Turkey country senior officer Ozgur Erzincan said the partnership enables Nokia to “fulfil all the domestic product demand from our customers for now and in the future.”
Karel chairman of the board Sinan Tunaoğlu added: “We are going through a period of significant change, in which technology develops very rapidly and the transition to new generation communication systems is ongoing.”
