Brazilian newcomer Winity Telecom has signed a six-year deal with Amdocs to support its deployment of 4G and 5G networks across remote rural areas of Brazil.
The initial stage of deployment will see Amdocs and Winity connect over 600 small municipalities with 4G services. The networks will also cover 35,000km of highways.
Winity, which is backed by asset management group Patria Investimentos, spent BRL1.428 billion to acquire a national 2×10MHz licence during the 700MHz spectrum auctions held in November 2021 – the most any firm spent on a single lot. CommsUpdate reports that Winity plans to become Brazil’s first wholesale operator, with a goal of constructing 5000 telecom towers by 2029.
“With 5G technology gaining more traction in Brazil and 4G’s continued benefits to connect our communities, our goal is to build state-of-the-art infrastructure to bring more opportunities for all,” said Winity Telecom CTIO Estevam Araujo.
The operator has not given an indication of its 5G launch plans, although several other firms have already launched 5G services in Brazil, including Algar, Claro, TIM and Vivo.
