Uzbekistan’s state-backed provider of fixed and mobile services Uzbektelecom has signed a raft of new deals with Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE.
With a total value of US$506.8 million, the deals have the backing of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MITC) and will see the operator expand and upgrade its networks and digital infrastructure.
TeleGeography reports that the initial stage of development will see Uzbektelecom install 2,255 new 3G/4G base stations, upgrade 3,216 existing 3G/4G base stations, and deploy 388 new 5G standard base stations across the capital Tashkent and other regional centres. These accomplishments will be built upon in a second phase.
Uzbektelecom stated that the projects would allow it to boost its quality of service while increasing its population coverage, as well as increasing transmission capacity for its trunk transport networks.
