Vodafone and Ericsson continue network optimization drive in Oman

Continuing evidence of the growth in importance of artficial intelligence (AI) for operators comes in the form of a recent announcement from Ericsson and Vodafone Oman that they have partnered to, as they put it, “empower the telecom company’s network infrastructure development across multiple domains”.

More specifically this latest step in the two companies’ ongoing partnership will see Ericsson provide AI-based cognitive software solutionsfor network optimisation to facilitate data-driven decisions and support Vodafone in implementing zero-touch operations (ZTO) and anomaly detection capabilities.

The implemented solutions includeEricsson Expert Analytics(EEA) and network optimisation Cognitive Software solutions. Combined, says Ericsson, these solutions offer near real-time, multivendor, and cross-domain data analytics and optimisation capabilities – utilising a big data platform where scalability and performance are greatly enhanced.

By correlating metrics and events from the network ecosystem, the solutions support Vodafone in assessing customer experiences, retaining and upselling subscribers, and prioritizing network investments. EEA also supports Vodafone in obtaining essential insights to support, optimise and monitor 5G deployments and subscriber adoption.

It’s all part of an ongoing implementation of AI-based solutions and automation being adopted by a number of operators around the world. This specific partnership began in September 2021, when Ericsson and Vodafone’s Oman operation entered a five-year managed services agreement for AI-powered data-driven network and IT operations and optimisation, enabling Vodafone to enrich its customer experience, drive efficiency and facilitate innovation through the Ericsson Operations Engine.
