PLDT reportedly lining up more towers for sale

Hot on the heels of rival Globe Telecom, Philippines-based operator PLDT is reportedly considering a sale of 2,000 towers for US$300m according to sources speaking to Bloomberg.

The news agency reported the operator is discussing the sale with banks. The deal would be a leaseback buy as has been PLDT’s previous string of deals. To date, the company has sold off half of its towers raising around PHP77 billion (US$1.3 billion).

PLDT said it transferred the majority of towers to edotco and EdgePoint Infrastructure, a deal that covered 5,907 towers for around PHP77 billion.

Globe Telecom revealed last week the transfer of 701 towers to Miescor Infrastructure Development, the first batch out of 2,180 towers between the companies.
