Two recent Nokia deals, in Indonesia and Azerbaijan, emphasise network enhancement and improved customer experience but also, the vendor says, offer the potential for cost savings for operators.
Nokia has announced that Indonesian operator Moratelindo has deployed its optical transport solution to boost network capacity to three terabytes in Jakarta and two terabytes in Java Island, scaling the network beyond 24Tb, and covering over 52,000km of fibre across the Indonesian archipelago.
This deployment, rolled out in June, together with another link of 3.2 terabytes toward Singapore, will enable Moratelindo to provide improved bandwidth to end users and allow the operator to monetize its network as network-as-a-service (NaaS).
Nokia's solution will also allow Moratelindo to integrate its existing network with newer traffic modules, thus saving capital expenditure and increasing the life of the installed infrastructure.
Powered by the Nokia Photonic Service Engine V (PSE-V) technology, the modernized optical transport network will enable Moratelindo to minimize its footprint while addressing a growing capacity requirement. Nokia's solution includes the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) to help Moratelindo maximize the reach and capacity of the transport network.
Nokia has also expanded its long-term strategic relationship with Delta Telecom, a leading provider of advanced network communications and technology solutions in the Azerbaijan and Caucasus region. Nokia will provide a nationwide core IP and Optical DWDM network enhancement with 400G-capable architecture to ensure Azerbaijan’s largest network has the capacity, flexibility and reduced power consumption to deliver the best possible customer experience for the future.
Delta Telecom will modernize and launch a 400GE-based IP/MPLS backbone in the Baku metropolitan area and will also modernize its nationwide IP/MPLS network with 100GE capacity to accommodate a rapid traffic increase in the Caucasus region. This will be the first 400GE IP technology deployed in the region.
The joint project with Nokia will, the partners say, allow Delta Telecom to provide its customers with improved SLAs, full end-to-end services resiliency, 5x higher bandwidth capacity, and faster services reconvergence.
For the modernization, Delta Telecom selected Nokia's 7750 Service Router platforms, powered by Nokia’s innovative FP4 chipset, and, as in Indonesia, the 1830 PSS optical platform with Nokia’s Photonic Service Engine technology, to expand capacity across its core routing and transport network for future services.
Delta Telecom will also be able to automate its network with Nokia’s Network Services Platform (NSP), resulting in easier management, lower costs and increased network responsiveness and resiliency.
