Ericsson and Intel partner for enterprise 5G development in Malaysia

Ericsson and Intel have announced a collaboration strategy aimed at increasing 5G adoption in Malaysia, with the companies highlighting the benefits that this will provide to the country’s burgeoning smart industry sector.

In order to help CSPs boost 5G uptake and increase their 5G use cases in the B2B segment, the companies said they would jointly develop enterprise use cases in selected verticals such as manufacturing, transport and logistics, as well as boosting digital infrastructure via edge services.

The partners claimed that this would underscore the benefits of digitalisation for emerging economies and the role that 5G connectivity can play in sustainable and resilient digital transformation.

David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, said: “5G is a platform for innovation and will transform the way enterprises operate”, adding that Ericsson and Intel’s collaboration would develop the local ecosystem as well as helping Malaysia attract international investment.

AK Chong, Managing Director of Intel Malaysia, added that the collaboration would enable “local enterprises to transform and accelerate their businesses through digital solutions.”

Ericsson is the sole vendor for Malaysia’s wholesale 5G network, which is managed by special purpose vehicle DNB (Digital Nasional Berhad). The state-owned firm claims that the network covered 15 million people at the end of 2022.
