Uzbektelecom trials 5G network

Uzbektelecom (Uztelecom) trialled its 5G network on consumers in the capital city of Tashkent as the operator prepares for a full launch, reported CommsUpdate.

The operator detailed that it switched on over 60 5G base stations in the city, and iPhones with iOS 16.4 will be among the devices able to tap into the network. Devices connecting to Uztelecom’s 5G network will be able to see download speeds of 1.1Gbps, claimed the operator.

Uztelecom announced in September 2022 it aimed to deploy 388 5G base stations in its first phase and a further 325 in its second phase to connect the capital city with 5G. There are also plans to upgrade over 3,000 existing base stations and roll out 2,000 more, noted TeleGeography GlobalComms Database.
