MTC Namibia beat rivals in speed test

MTC Namibia recorded the fastest mobile and fixed internet speeds in Namibia last year, according to data from industry bench markers Ookla.

MTC Namibia recorded the fastest mobile and fixed internet speeds in Namibia last year, according to data from industry bench markers Ookla.

In a statement, MTC Namibia stated it provided the fastest speeds in those two categories during Q3 and Q4 of 2022.

In a separate statement, Ookla detailed MTC had an overall speed score of 24.16, more than doubling rival Telecom Namibia’s 11.88.

MTC Namibia said Ookla compared speed tests from 93,908 users that activated the Ookla Speedtest app on iOS and Android devices connected to mobile and fixed networks.

The highest download speed recorded was from a user in the capital city of Windhoek, yielding a speed score of 73.96Mbps and upload speeds of 53.67mbps during the period under review.

MTC Namibia managing director Dr Licky Erastus said; “Our aspiration as MTC Namibia is to ensure that every person across Namibia has access to and enjoys the benefits of a modern connected world and therefore we continue to invest in our network with the latest technologies to ensure that we provide these services to our customers at a quality experience, MTC Namibia since 2017 has invested NAD1.2 billion (US$62 million) with the hope to expand its geographical network coverage to at least 90% countrywide.”
