STT GDC launches Jakarta data centre and expands in the Philippines

STT GDC Indonesia, a leading data centre provider, has officially launched its first data centre facility, STT Jakarta 1, in Bekasi, Jawa Barat. The data centre campus will support up to 72 megawatts of critical IT capacity, with STT Jakarta 1 supporting up to 19.5 MW.

The new facility is the first building in the data centre campus, developed under a joint venture with leading Indonesian conglomerate Triputra Group and global investment company Temasek.

A surge in data requirements has increased demand for data centres in Indonesia. STT GDC says its new facility has been built to support the long-term expansion of Indonesia's digital economy.

STT Jakarta 1 has a gross floor area of 18,000 square metres and caters to the varying needs of cloud, technology, banking and finance, content, gaming, e-commerce and other enterprise customers. It features a highly secure building perimeter; a column-less design in the data hall, optimising the utilisation of white space; a building design that complies with the most stringent seismic standards; certification to both Uptime Institute’s Tier III certification of design documents and TIA-942 Rated 3; and LEED Gold certification, making the new data centre among the most sustainable data centres in Indonesia.

It also boasts readiness to host the latest compute infrastructure, such as GPUs, to support the wave of AI-fuelled demand, including both air and liquid cooling options.

PT STT GDC Indonesia has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) separately with five connectivity partners, each of which will set up a point of presence in STT Jakarta 1 to serve the domestic, regional and international connectivity needs of customers in the data centre campus.

In addition, according to the Data Centre Dynamics website, STT GDC's Philippines unit is intending to expand the capacity of its data centres in Makati, Cavite, and Quezon City by a total of 5.2MW. This will bring the total footprint up to 27.2MW, the majority of which will be powered by renewable energy sources.

It is also exploring greenfield builds in order to cater to hyperscalers, and eventually plans to operate over 150MW of IT capacity in the coming years.
