Nokia equipped Mobifone with analytics tools to cut the Vietnamese operator’s overall energy consumption by 14%.
In a statement from Nokia, Mobifone deputy manager of the technology department Vu Tuan Trung said: “MobiFone supports sustainable practices to bring down our carbon emissions without compromising on performance or the customer experience. We are thrilled by the results of this trial with Nokia Digital Design and look forward to working with our longstanding partner, Nokia to reduce the energy consumption in other parts of our network.”
The Finnish vendor detailed the operator trialled its Digital Design service which used data from Mobifone’s network and enabled it to implement power reduction in 88% of 4G radio cells.
To achieve the result, Nokia helped MobiFone transition from traditional network-wide or cluster-wide power settings to cell-level settings, which helped them find an optimal radio link and power balance with overall lower transmit power.
Radio Access Network accounts for around 80% of energy consumption said Nokia, and reducing the RAN is a key way to reduce overall energy needs for all service providers.
