Emtel Mauritius launches 5G, taps Tecnotree for digital transformation

Emtel Mauritius selects Tecnotree for BSS transformation

UPDATE: Emtel Mauritius has announced the launch of its 5G mobile network alongside a new agreement with Tecnotree.

The operator's 5G network went live on 31st July 2023, offering download speeds of up to 1.87Gbps for compatible devices. Emtel touted population coverage of 60% and underlined that it is aiming to achieve full coverage within 2024.

"With the widest 5G network in Mauritius – and most probably the widest 5G network in Africa, considering the population and the area that we cover – we are proud to be the first company to launch 5G across such a significant portion of the island", said Emtel CEO Kresh Goomany. The operator launched a 5G broadband fixed wireless access service in Mauritius last year.

In addition, Emtel has signed an agreement with Tecnotree for digital transformation solutions. Tecnotree’s 5G-ready BSS suite with analytical capabilities comprises a range of business processes that support customer lifecycle and revenue management. The firm’s open-source BSS stack is cloud-native, Open Digital Architecture (ODA) compliant, and platinum certified by TM Forum for real-world Open APIs that allows seamless integration. This solution provides an improved customer experience as well as advanced monetisation opportunities, meeting the escalating need for new and futuristic services for both retail and enterprise customers.

Goomany said: “Tecnotree BSS suite enables us to enhance our operational efficiency and cater to the ever-evolving market requirements. It equips us with the necessary tools to drive maximum benefits in terms of scale, performance, and cost-effectiveness. We are confident that Tecnotree BSS Suite capabilities such as digital customer onboarding, intelligent customer 360-degree view, real-time customer insights & recommendations, and unified catalog for bundled offerings will not only help Emtel to deliver superior customer experience but will also complement our 5G offerings for the customers.”

Padma Ravichander, CEO Tecnotree OYJ, added: “We are excited to collaborate with Emtel Mauritius and proud to play a critical role towards their move to digitisation and advanced services. This partnership marks an important step forward in our commitment to provide superior digital transformation solutions that will allow them to gain maximum benefits in terms of an incremental transformation with new business models, operational efficiency, immersive user experience, and customer data-centric architecture.”
