Now Group to enhance connectivity in Cagayan province

Philippines-based Now Group signed a memorandum of understanding with state-owned corporation the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), to deploy telecoms infrastructure in the Cagayan province.

In a statement, the company detailed the agreement paves the way for subsidiary Now Telecom and Now Corporation to deploy fixed wired, fixed wireless, terrestrial, satellite, and other connectivity infrastructure in CEZA’s territory ensuring reliable and quality broadband and other ICT services to the province.

The next step for the project will be the completion of technical studies.

CEZA is within the vicinity of two Philippine-American military bases which Now Group said is integral to the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the United States and the Philippines, amplifying its global security influence.

NOW Group chairman Mel Velarde (pictured) said: “Our partnership with CEZA is a demonstration of our commitment to support the current administration’s Digital Philippines. As we advance in this era of digital transformation, we prioritize reducing the digital divide region by region. Our strategic intent is to leverage the power of technology and telecom, presenting a growth potential that can captivate international investors and locators.”

Now Group secured grants from the US government to construct its 5G network as the operator signed up for the Clean Network initiative, a US programme to ensure operators buy infrastructure equipment from vendors that do not pose a threat to national security.
