Scala continues data centre growth with new Chile facility
Scala Data Centres, a leading name in sustainable data centres in Latin America’s hyperscale market, has announced the start of operations by its Chile-based SSCLCR01 data centre.

Located in a campus in Curauma, in the Valparaiso region, the new data centre boasts an investment ofUS$65 millionand 5MW of IT capacity but is designed to reach a critical capacity of approximately 30MW in the coming years. Scala says that at launch it has been 100% booked to one hyperscale customer.

This new facility is part of the company's strategy to enable new hyperscale markets acrossLatin America. In addition to the availability of land, energy, connectivity and proximity to consolidated markets – it is based 56 miles from the Santiago metropolitan area – it will also benefit from the arrival in Chile of the Humboldt submarine cable, which promises to connectLatin Americato theAsia-Pacificregions for the first time.

Powered by 100% renewable and certified energy, the new Chilean data centre was built based on the proprietary and innovative One Scala Template design and construction methodology. The SSCLCR01 data centre was designed to operate with a PUE (power usage effectiveness) lower than 1.2-1.3 and with a WUE (water usage effectiveness) of zero as it uses air cooling.

Scala is also building Lampa Campus, in the metropolitan region ofSantiago. This will be the largest data centre campus ever built inChilewith an IT capacity of 80MW (30MW for initial delivery in 2024). The installation of a HyperEdge data centre is also planned for this region. New sites are also coming to Brazil,Mexico andColombia.

Since its founding in 2020, Scala says it has invested more thanUS$1.6 billion in hyperscale data centres inLatin Americaand expects to reach 500MW of distributed capacity over the next five years in four countries in which it operates.
