Jacto, a Brazilian multinational corporation in the machinery sector, has selected technology giant Nokia to deploy what is described as the first industrial-grade private wireless 4.9G/LTE and 5G network for the agricultural machinery industry in Latin America.
Jacto is currently building a 5G smart factory in Pompeia, in the province of Sao Paulo. Spanning 96,000 square metres, the factory will house an automated painting system with cutting-edge technology, autonomous vehicle handling and an automated storage system. The plant will also include an advanced training centre.
Nokia was selected to deploy an industrial-grade private wireless network, based on the Nokia Modular Private Wireless solution using 5G NSA. The spectrum in use will be the 700MHz band for 4.9G/LTE and the 3.7GHz band for 5G.
Nokia says that the network “connects everyone and everything with pervasive high capacity and ultra-low latency to make the 5G smart factory a reality”. Nokia will also provide complementary services for installation, configuration, training and assisted operations.
Fernando Gonçalves, President at Jacto, says: "The new plant will serve both domestic and foreign markets, with product lines for spraying, fertilising, planting, harvesting coffee and sugar cane, in addition to precision agriculture, digital technology and autonomous vehicles.” He continues: “We consulted several players in the telecommunications market, and Nokia was the one that presented the best proposal in terms of quality, robustness and scalability of the product to meet our project."
