Safaricom expanded its 5G network to 35 counties in Kenya while also launching consumer incentives to boost uptake of its high speed network.
Safaricom added 14 new counties to its growing network, namely: Bomet, Busia, Isiolo, Kitui, Mandera, Migori, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Homa Bay, West Pokot, Embu, Kirinyaga, Muranga and Turkana.
As part of its strategy the operator slashed prices of its 5G WiFi routers by up to 60%, with subscribers taking an 18-month contract taking the router for free.
The operator also partnered with Huawei to set up three 5G experience centres in Nairobi to showcase 5G use cases such as VR gaming, smart capabilities for the home and enterprises and speed test booths. Safaricom launched 5G in Kenya in October 2022.
