CelcomDigi, Softbank, SC-NEX to create IR4.0 solutions for Malaysia

Malaysian telco CelcomDigi announced a strategic partnership on Monday with SoftBank and Sumitomo subsidiary SC-NEX to develop Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) solutions based on AI, robotics, and analytics for Malaysian enterprises.

Under the partnership agreement, CelcomDigi’s Innovation Centre will collaborate with SoftBank and SC-NEX to explore and create IR4.0 solutions that can leverage CelcomDigi’s 4G/5G network. The collaboration will initially focus on agritech and smart city solutions.

For Agritech, CelcomDigi, SoftBank and SC-NEX will look at combining drone technology with AI and analytics solutions for plantation operations, security, and connectivity. Meanwhile, the companies will explore smart city use cases such as integrated building management software, IoT sensors, access, security and environment visualization control.

“This partnership opens many possibilities for Malaysian enterprises to gain faster access to transformative technologies and help them unlock the true potential of their businesses,” said CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi in a statement. “Our goal is to help more businesses with their digital transformation, enabling them to remain competitive in today’s digital economy.”

Kimimasa Kudo, VP and head of Softbank’s Global Business Division, said the company has developed smart building solutions in Japan as part of its ‘Beyond Carrier’ growth initiative that utilize cutting-edge building entry and robotics solutions, among others.

“We look forward to utilizing our know-how with our partners,” he said. “We also look forward to collaborating in other technology areas to contribute to the sustainable growth of industry in Malaysia.”
