Nokia was chosen by Armenian operator Ucom to upgrade its RAN and prepare it for a future deployment of 5G services.
In a statement, the Finnish vendor said it will upgrade Ucom’s core and IP network infrastructure, enhance mobile user experience with faster speeds and increased capacity. The upgrade will “transform” Ucom’s network and benefit consumer and enterprise customers.
Also part of the deal, Nokia will supply equipment from its 5G AirScale portfolio powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. Ucom’s network will also be enhanced with solutions that will deliver improved network monitoring and management, with AI functionalities.
Ucom Chairman of the Board of Directors Gurgen Khachatryan said: "We are confident that the strategic partnership with Nokia will have a positive impact on enterprise development and the utilisation of 5G-ready solutions, directly influencing the economy of the Republic of Armenia".
