Corning, Dell and Intel collaborate on RAN compute platform
Corning Incorporated, an innovator in materials science, is showcasing at MWC 2024 a new radio access network (RAN) compute platform, developed in collaboration with Dell Technologies and Intel, to speed the deployment of 5G networks inside high-density buildings.

The platform is the hardware and software hub of Corning’s recently launched Everon 5G ERAN solution designed for radio access networks, which is also being showcased at MWC. It features the 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor, Intel FlexRAN reference software, and Dell PowerEdge servers, creating a flexible, cost-effective path to reliable network access and better user experiences in environments like airports, office buildings, hotels, and hospitals.

Corning says the collaborative RAN Compute Platform draws on its leadership in fibre-enabled cellular solutions and is supported by Intel’s expertise in processors and software and Dell’s infrastructure experience. With the platform at its core, Corning’s newest Everon solution allows enterprises to support all public mobile operators over a common network.

This, Corning says, marks a major departure from legacy solutions, which provide cellular connectivity for just one mobile operator at a time.

The platform’s open RAN architecture accommodates components from multiple vendors. It also uses virtualised RAN technology, offering hardware flexibility through cloud-based data processing.
