ZTE brings virtualisation tech to Mexican MVNO

Major tech player ZTE Corporation has announced that it has secured a bid for the Mexican izzi Telecom MVNO project.

ZTE will provide izzi Telecom with network-wide core network + VAS services based on Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat OpenStack Platform, showcasing, says ZTE, its technological leadership in the virtualisation field.

As the largest pay-TV operator and the second-largest fixed network operator in Mexico, izzi Telecom operates under Grupo Televisa, the country's largest media company. With 6.3 million subscribers, izzi leverages its advanced technologies and products to provide quad-play services to numerous cities across Mexico.

ZTE and izzi Telecom have collaborated on what they call a ground-breaking project, marking the first solution based on Red Hat OpenStack Platform delivered by ZTE. This solution provides a comprehensive suite of network elements (NEs), including virtual cloud network (VCN) and vVAS.

Leveraging ZTE-developed hardware and the Ceph storage mode, it offers an end-to-end virtualisation solution encompassing hardware, network functions virtualisation infrastructure (NFVIs), virtual network functions (VNFs), and network functions virtualisation management and orchestration (MANOs).

For new mobile virtual operator networks, says Huawei, cloud-native architecture and virtualisation solutions are better aligned with customer requirements. They enhance the flexibility and reliability of network operations, enabling more agile and rapid development of new services, and significantly improving brand competitiveness.

These solutions encompass ICT integration of hardware, cloud platforms and cloud applications/MANO/cloud integration, facilitating operators' digital transformation efforts.
