Nokia secured a contract to supply Uzbekistan-based operator Perfectum with equipment and software to construct its standalone (SA) 5G network, in line with the operator’s plan to commercially launch Central Asia's first SA 5G network.
In a statement, Nokia said it will be the sole supplier of standalone 5G gear to Perfectum including radio access, transport, core networks, and applications of network automation, service orchestration, mediation and charging.
Perfectum’s commercial 5G launch was planned for Q4 this year in the Kazakh capital of Tashkent, with all regions to be connected over the course of two years.
Nokia added the investment aligns with the government’s digital transformation strategy by providing high speed connectivity in the region, enabling several areas including remote working, telemedicine, and smart city initiatives.
Perfectum CEO Dmitry Shukov said: “This deployment is an important step to keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital landscape in the region, and to leverage the transformative potential of 5G technology for our society and economy at large.”
