Telecom Namibia said on Monday it has signed a five-year transformative partnership with Huawei Technologies to modernise and expand coverage of its mobile network, to include 5G.
Under the deal – which is part of Telecom Namibia’s five-year Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) 2027 – Telecom Namibia will deploy 4G, 4.5G, and 5G RAN technologies from Huawei to boost its mobile network capacity and coverage across the country, including previously underserved areas. No financial details were disclosed.
Telecom Namibia CEO Dr. Stanley Shanapinda (pictured, third) said in a statement that the expansion project would empower users with faster data speeds, and improved reliability, whilst also allowing the telco to deliver enhanced services to both urban and rural areas across the country.
“This collaboration underscores our dedication to delivering unparalleled mobile connectivity and bridging the digital divide in communities across our country,” he said in a statement.
The deal is the latest of several that Telecom Namibia has announced under ISBP 2027 – which was unveiled in June 2023 – and the second with Huawei. In November 2023, the telco signed an N$100 million (US$5.2 million) agreement with Huawei to deliver a fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) core network
In June 2023, Telecom Namibia signed a N$327 million OSS/BSS billing system agreement with Spanish company SATEC.
