Veon taps ZTE for network upgrade in Kazakhstan

Amsterdam-headquartered operator group Veon completed upgrades to its unit Beeline Kazakhstan’s network using ZTE equipment, to support growing demand of connectivity in the country.

In a joint press release, the companies revealed over 1,800 base stations were upgraded in the Akmola and Turkestan regions for their 'Giga City' project.

This network modernisation programme introduced FDD Massive MIMO technology to major cities in those locations, and “substantial” 4G throughput for subscribers.

Beeline CEO Evgeniy Nastradin said: “Rapid growth in data traffic consumption continues in Kazakhstan. This requires a more efficient 4G network to meet increasing network capacity demands while delivering a better user experience. The FDD Massive MIMO solution is a right way to optimize the modern 4G network.”

VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu added: “The high-quality results will help achieve the digitalisation goals we have for Kazakhstan.”
