Telecom Egypt and Hungary-based 4iG Group struck a partnership to build fibre access infrastructure, to commercialise Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) and Fibre-To-The-Site (FTTS) fibre access infrastructure on a wholesale basis in Egypt.
In a joint statement, the operators detailed that they will jointly invest around US$600 million into the project over the next 10 years, to provide up to six million households with high-speed fibre connectivity.
The operators are still to strike agreements on the business mode, exact ownership structure, governance process and technological details of the joint venture.
Telecom Egypt Managing Director and CEO, Mohamed Nasr, said: “Through this agreement, which will capitalise on our respective strengths in the ICT industry, we will accelerate Egypt's digital transformation thanks to the future-ready network that will ramp-up 5G and many other next generation services such as IoT and enterprise networks.”
Gellert Jaszai, 4iG Group Chairman, added: “The combination of the strengths and expertise of the two major companies foresees the success of the Egyptian fibre network development program. It also ensures the application of the latest technologies and innovations, as well as the establishment of high-quality services across the country.”
