Indosat launches AI solutions for Indonesia’s oil and gas sector

Indonesian telco Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison announced on Thursday that it has launched a new suite of AI-powered, cloud-based solutions specifically geared to help Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas industry become more sustainable.

The new portfolio – which is being offered via Indosat Business and its subsidiary Lintasarta – includes, for example, high-resolution seismic wave measurements powered by AI to help facilities better explore sites to establish wells, which Indosat says can increase production by up to 10%.

Other AI-driven solutions include condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance for equipment, AI-based legal contract analysis for reviewing complex legal contracts with high financial risk and extensive regulatory considerations, intelligent surveillance to monitor workplace safety, and improved collaboration among workers. All solutions promise improved productivity and efficiences for oil and gas operations.

The solutions make use of Lintasarta’s GPU cloud infrastructure, which offers capex and opex cost efficiencies, as well as flexible, scalable payment models, Indosat said.

Muhammad Buldansyah, Indosat’s director and chief business officer, said the AI solutions are designed to help the oil and gas sector become cleaner, more efficient, and more competitive.

“The goal is to reshape the oil and gas industry by leveraging AI technology to make it more resilient, adaptable, and sustainable in the future,” he said in a statement.

Indosat added that the new AI-powered solutions were initially introduced to the oil and gas sector at a meeting of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) with SKK Migas and Oil and Gas Contractors (KKKS), held last month in Bali.
