Malaysian telco U Mobile has signed a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) with FGV Holdings’ IT subsidiary FGV Prodata Systems to beef up the company’s connectivity and digital infrastructure as part of its business transformation initiative.
Under the deal, FGV – a Malaysia-based agribusiness and food company and one of the world’s biggest producers of crude palm oil – will leverage U Mobile’s network infrastructure, including 5G, to support managed network services for its operations, including branches, plantations, factories, mills, bulking stations, and headquarters.
FGV Prodata and U Mobile will also collaborate on co-creating and deploying digital platforms and solutions such as smart agriculture, smart building and smart surveillance under the deal.
FGV said in a joint statement that the deal with U Mobile would enable the group to leverage automation and digitalisation to increase efficiencies and save operational costs.
FGV Group CEO Nazrul Mansor said the partnership would “prioritise the development and management of digital infrastructure, crucial for supporting business digital transformation initiatives for FGV.”
U Mobile is one of four telco investors in Digital Nasional Berhad, Malaysia's sole 5G network operator. The company has also expressed its intentions to participate in the country's planned second 5G network under the government’s planned dual network model. Earlier this month, U Mobile and Axiata-owned telecoms infrastructure company Edotco formed a partnership to expedite rollout of the second 5G network.
