Beeline upgrades network in Uzbekistan

Beeline Uzbekistan launched 60 new base stations in 20 locations in the Khorezm region to boost internet speed by almost double, a move to fulfil rising demand in the location.

In a statement, the Veon-owned operator detailed 12 of the new base stations were deployed in the city of Khiva, with the rest spread across districts such as Bagat, Gurlen, Kushkupir, Urgench, Khazarasp, Khanka, Khiva, Shavat, Yangiarik, and Yangibazar.

As well as deploying new sites the operator also upgraded 66 base stations in 26 locations. The majority of these base stations are in the city of Urgench and five reside in Khiva.

Additionally, radio relay lines were modernised and can now use quicker EBand technology.

Overall this deployment has boosted connectivity speeds by 44% since the beginning of 2024, and VoLTE traffic had increased eightfold to 8,000 Erlangs per day, which is a unit of telecom traffic. The city of Urgench now has full 4G coverage after the upgrade, and tourist hotspots in Khiva had seen significant boosts to service, Beeline stated.

"The launch of new base stations and the modernization of existing ones ensure an increase in internet speed and communication quality in Khorezm. It is important to note that the upgrades have impacted popular tourist destinations such as Khiva and the Ichan-Kala complex. We continue to invest in infrastructure to keep our customers connected at all times," said Aybek Uzakov, Director of Beeline Uzbekistan's Western Regional Branch.
