Orange hails remarkable Africa & Middle East unit

Orange credited “remarkable” results from its Africa and Middle East unit for a solid performance in the second quarter.

In a statement, Orange detailed group EBITDAaL grew 2.6% year-on-year to EUR3.1 billion, and revenue was flat at EUR9.9 billion. Net income was not detailed for the quarter, but it was flat for the first six months at EUR1.1 billion.

Africa and the Middle East was the “main contributor to this growth” as revenue grew by 10.3%, driven by mobile data, fixed broadband and Orange Money. Its home market France delivered flat revenue and Europe declined 2.2%.

In Q1 (ending June 30) the group recorded 245.9 million global customers a 7.3% increase.

Orange CEO Christel Heydemann said: “Orange has had a very good first half with solid results that allow us to confirm the Group’s guidance. These results, which notably include a sharp increase in cash flow, continue to be driven by the remarkable performance of Africa & Middle East and the solid improvement of EBITDAaL in Europe, including in France where EBITDAaL stabilised in this first half.”
