Indosat and AIonOS team up to create AI-native enterprises

Indonesian telco Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison continued its push into the AI space via a strategic partnership with AIonOS, revealed on Friday, that aims to transform businesses into AI-native enterprises and accelerate AI sovereignty in Indonesia.

Under an MoU signed on July 18 with AIonOS – an Indian joint venture between aviation-focused travel conglomerate InterGlobe and VC firm Assago Group – Indosat will develop and launch a suite of sovereign AI solutions designed to offer a plug-and-play platform. Indosat says the suite will focus on priority industries in Indonesia such as ed-tech, and will target all stakeholders in those ecosystems, which will enable adoption across industries.

Indosat and AIonOS will also develop enterprise solutions with embedded AI offerings tailored for domain-specific use cases such as aviation.

The two companies will also develop a bouquet of solutions – billed “Data and AI in a Box” – to accelerate and scale existing Indosat capabilities with advanced AI use cases. Key focus areas include fraud prevention and identity solutions to create a secure digital ecosystem, as well as privacy-focused marketing technology solutions to enable Indonesian businesses to deliver secure and personalized digital experiences.

Indosat president director and CEO Vikram Sinha said the AIonOS partnership will spearhead its “AI3” (Artificial Intelligence for Indonesia by Indosat) initiative to not only leverage the potential of AI, but also transform itself into a native AI technology company and put Indonesia on the map as a leader in AI innovation.

“By integrating cutting-edge AI solutions into our digital infrastructure, we are not only enhancing our technological capabilities but also ensuring that Indonesia remains at the forefront of global AI innovation,” he said in a statement. “Our goal is to harness the power of AI to drive sustainable growth, secure digital ecosystems, and ultimately, improve the quality of life for every Indonesian.”

The AIonOS partnership is the latest of a string of AI-related announcements from Indosat this year, starting with an MoU signed with Nvidia at Mobile World Congress 2024 under which Indosat and its subsidiary, Lintasarta, agreed to bring Nvidia’s full-stack AI platform to enterprises in Indonesia and offer customers access to Nvidia’s GPU technologies with high-density data centres. In March, Indosat announced it will integrate Nvidia’s new Blackwell platform into its infrastructure.

Earlier this month, Indosat launched a suite of AI-powered, cloud-based solutions specifically geared to help Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas industry become more sustainable.
