Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala announces investment in Yondr Group

Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi sovereign investor, has announced an investment in Yondr Group, a leading global hyperscale data centre developer.

The investment is being made alongside Apollo, a provider of alternative asset management and retirement solutions, via an existing investment from Apollo-managed funds. The amount involved has not been specified.

Yondr provides scalable data centre infrastructure for major blue chip technology players and has a contracted and reserved capacity of 878MW, with 58MW currently operational.

Mubadala says its investment will support Yondr’s ambitious growth strategy, which has been developed in line with the rapid demand growth for hyperscale data centres, driven by advances in artificial intelligence (AI), 5G technology and the internet of things (IoT).

The investment builds on Mubadala’s rapidly growing portfolio of leading global data centre assets under its digital infrastructure portfolio. In 2023, Mubadala invested in Aligned Data Centers, a leading pan-Americas data center company. In 2022, it invested in Princeton Digital Group, a leading pan-Asian data centre company. It is also investing in major global fibre network providers.

Yondr Group’s news in recent years from developing markets includes, in 2022, a planned 200MW hyperscale campus in Malaysia and, in 2021, a strategic joint venture partnership with Singapore-based Everstone Group, one of Asia’s premier investment firms  to fund the development and operation of multi-locational hyperscale data centre business across important geographies in India.

Aligned with Mubadala’s responsible investing mandate, Yondr is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. As we reported in January, this commitment involves reducing emissions across all its data centres through energy-efficient technologies and the use of renewable energy to power its infrastructure.
