Magyar Telekom announced the sale of spectrum to rival Yettel in a move to optimise its frequencies portfolio, and increase capacity in 4G and 5G services.
In a bourse disclosure, the Deutsche Telekom unit stated it transferred the usage right of two blocks of 5MHz frequencies in the 2,100MHz band to Yettel. The usage right for the frequency was extended in December 2018 to June 27, 2027.
Magyar Telekom did not detail the price of the spectrum and stated the sale does not affect customer service quality. The completion of the deal is subject to approval from the National Media and Infocommunications Authority.
Magyar Telecom also signed a 2G mobile access agreement with Yettel enabling the operator to manage its 2G traffic via services provided by Yettel, starting from January 1, 2026, “ensuring an efficient solution from both spectrum and energy utilization perspective”.
