Nokia bags Viettel 5G deal

Nokia signed a deal to deploy locally manufactured 5G equipment across Vietnam for state-owned operator Viettel Group.

In a statement, the vendor said the project will span across 22 provinces to support Viettel’s strategy to advance 5G infrastructure and digital transformation.

Under the deal, Nokia will supply Massive MIMO radios and Remote Head products from its 5G AirScale portfolio to around 2,500 sites. The equipment is locally manufactured and have energy efficiency technology built in.

Viettel Group President and CEO Tao Duc Thang said: “This important project with our long-term partner Nokia, will play a critical role in advancing Viettel Group’s strategy of deploying 5G infrastructure and driving digital transformation in Vietnam. 5G technology supports the development of national digital infrastructure and a digital service ecosystem, creating opportunities for economic growth and increased productivity.”

Nokia President of Mobile Networks Tommi Uitto said: “Nokia has been a part of Vietnam's growth over the past three decades, and this initiative of enhancing local technology production continues to strengthen our bond with the country.”
