Digicel Papua New Guinea hailed efforts in expanding its mobile network to all 21 provinces of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, noting 4G coverage now stands at 80% in the location where in the past, it was rumoured to be exiting.
The Post-Courier reported, Digicel PNG had significantly expanded its network in the region since 2022 with 115 mobile towers newly constructed and 96 existing sites upgraded to 4G in the past two years.
Digicel PNG CEO Tarik Boudiaf said: “By extending our mobile network to all 21 provinces we are making significant strides towards enabling every Papua New Guinean to get access to reliable and high-speed internet.”
It was reported in 2017 Digicel PNG had submitted a proposal to local government to exit from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville despite being a main source of connectivity for citizens. The operator vehemently denied this calling the rumours “baseless and false”.
