Philippines-based operator Globe Telecom reduced its carbon emissions by 4.2% through Qualcomm’s AI-powered RAN automation platform, as part of its broader goal to achieve net zero by 2050.
In a statement, Globe detailed the significant expansion of the RAN automation platform, known as Edgewise, developed by Qualcomm in partnership with Amdocs. Qualcomm’s AI-based Energy Efficiency Orchestration application has been operational in Globe’s network for the past seven months, powered by AWS Cloud infrastructure.
The operator noted that the initiative has allowed it to optimise the energy efficiency of its existing RAN equipment, leading to both a reduction in carbon emissions and operational expenses.
“This collaboration is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and innovation in delivering superior network experiences as we aim for decarbonisation and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Globe’s Head of Service Planning and Engineering, Joel Agustin.
Qualcomm Vice President, ST Liew, added that AI and automation are critical technologies in operators’ energy-saving strategies.
