Nokia announced another deal in Vietnam, this time with Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to supply equipment for the operator’s 5G rollout.
In a statement, the Finnish vendor noted it is also manufacturing some of its 5G portfolio locally in Vietnam, underscoring its commitment to Southeast Asia. Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy its AirScale portfolio, powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology.
These technologies will provide high-quality connectivity, low latency, enhanced capacity, and reduced power consumption. Nokia will also implement its AI-based network management solution, 5G MantaRay, to improve the efficiency of VNPT’s network operations.
VNPT CEO Huynh Quang Liem stated: “Collaborating with Nokia will enable VNPT to rapidly deploy a world-class 5G network and meet the growing demands of our customers. 5G will serve as the foundation to drive Vietnam’s economic development and societal progress, accelerating its journey towards becoming a digital economy.”
Nokia President of Mobile Networks, Tommi Uitto, added: “Nokia is proud to be VNPT’s strategic partner in introducing 5G, which will deliver future-ready communications solutions to help accelerate Vietnam’s digital future. Our local 5G production further strengthens our strong relationship with the country.”
VNPT operators under the Vinaphone brand is the closest challenger to market leader Viettel.
Recently, Nokia announced a deal to supply VNPT rival Viettel with equipment for its 5G deployment. Ericsson also announced contract wins in Vietnam.
Viettel claimed to be the first Vietnamese operator to launch commercial 5G in the country.
