du upgrading 100G network

UAE-based operator du is boosting the speed and capacity of its 100G coherent optical transport network. Alcatel-Lucent is building the second phase of the network through the United Arab Emirates.

The network will use Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) to address the booming demand for high-bandwidth data services such as high-definition video streaming, next-generation mobile broadband applications and cloud services.

High-speed 100G and OTN sub-wavelength grooming will essentially future-proof the network, allowing du to address capacity needs created by surge in data from cloud, video and other high bandwidth hungry applications.

Saleem Al-Balooshi, EVP of Customer Operations at du, said: “Customer experience is our priority. We constantly endeavour to develop our infrastructure, taking into consideration the digital age and the changing needs of our customers. The demand for data services is growing by the second and we will boost the capabilities of our network in order to accommodate future needs.”
