As part of its preparation to upgrade its network capacity for LTE, Russian operator MegaFon has acquired new optical networking equipment from NEC and Transmode.
MegaFon aims to significantly increase its network transmission capacity as well as optimise transmission costs. The networks are now live with six of the operator’s eight branches: Stolichny, Kavkaz, Center, Volga, Ural and Far East.
The operator’s Deputy CEO for infrastructure, Igor Shirokov, noted: “The development of 4G networks is a top priority for MegaFon. We are making all efforts to ensure the stability and high quality of services by investing in infrastructure with maximum effectiveness.”
Raymond Armes, Managing Director of NEC Neva, said that the firm was aiming to “help MegaFon upgrade its network in a fast and cost effective manner.”
Björn Andersson, Transmode's Vice President of sales, said: “We look forward to supporting MegaFon in its plans to improve user experience, drive down network costs and offer new service capabilities as they continue to expand their network.”
