Huawei's GSM-Railway end-to-end solutions are intended to comply with several highly respected standards in order to satisfy the demand for communications on high-speed railways. A recent inspection of Huawei's GSM-R laboratory in Shanghai revealed a test at speeds of 430 km/hour on the local Maglev rail system...
Huawei recently hosted a delegation from the internationally respected Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer (International Union of Railways, UIC) which visited Huawei's GSM-Railway (GSM-R) laboratory in Shanghai. The delegation praised Huawei for its GSM-R services which were tested at high-speed - 430 km/hour - on the Shanghai Maglev Railway.
Huawei's GSM-R end-to-end solutions are designed to satisfy the demand for communications on high-speed railways and to comply strictly with European Integrated Railway Radio Enhanced Network (EIRENE) specifications and requirements, these latter also forming the international standards for GSM-R. GSM-R in turn is a wireless communications platform developed specifically for railway communications and applications.
The UIC delegation, representing what is the world's largest international organisation for rail standardisation, commended the performance of Huawei's end-to-end solutions which ran at speeds of 430 km/h on the Maglev. They were deeply impressed by the signal, clear voice, and steady transmission of GPRS data. They also highly appraised the ability of Huawei GSM-R solutions to handle handover algorithm, GPRS applications and Doppler frequency shift cancellation technology under a demanding high-speed environment.
Huawei is committed to improving the security and stability of each single network element according to the special requirements of railway mobile communication, and adopting disaster recovery solutions such as softswitch and backup architecture in core network design.
A robust high speed communications network will bring direct business benefits which will contribute to a client's business operations. For instance, China's first commercial GSM-R system is for the Daqin Railway, which not only runs safely and steadily, but its transportation efficiency has also increased tremendously.Robert Sarfati, Chairman of the European Rail Traffic Management Systems (ERTMS)/GSM-R Operators Group remarked, "UIC is very glad to work with Huawei on R&D and standardisation of GSM-R technologies. Furthermore, we will also make efforts to promote the development and application of GSM-R standards around the world."
