The CTO of the UAE’s du has stated that the operator has no issues concerning the security of Huawei’s network equipment.
Saleem Albalooshi confirmed that du is using Huawei kit for its 5G deployments and its tests of the equipment had not revealed any “security holes...specifically in 5G”, reported Reuters. Huawei has also received backing from Malaysia’s Maxis and Russia’s MTS.
The US has repeatedly expressed concerns over the security of Huawei’s equipment and has pressured its allies into dropping the vendor’s kit from their 5G network buildouts. Huawei has consistently refuted such claims.
Albalooshi noted that du had strong reservations about the US threat to stop sharing information with allied intelligence services if their governments opted to use Huawei equipment, but added that the operator would toe the UAE government’s line.
