Turkcell, the leading mobile network operator in Turkey with around 34 million subscribers, has selected Mavenir, a cloud-native network software provider, to deploy its cloud-native, network functions virtualization (NFV)-based IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) solution.
Mavenir’s virtualized IMS (vIMS) solution is designed to fully support LTE use cases and evolve into a fully web-scale platform that can meet the operator’s requirements, enabling Turkcell, says Mavenir, to continue to lead the evolution to its 5G networks. Mavenir will also provide rich communication services and rich business messaging as well as a dynamic routing solution for Turkcell.
Turkcell has been continuing to develop its virtualised infrastructure since it launched its unified telco cloud in 2016. Now, in line with this goal, Turkcell is also transforming its LTE and 5G voice network into 100 percent virtual infrastructures.
In fact Turkcell says it has reached more than 60 percent virtualisation in its mobile core network and that, to serve its customers on its unified telco cloud on the way to 5G, virtual IMS will be a critical network transformation milestone for its NFV journey.
“We are looking forward to creating new revenue streams and launching new disruptive digital and advanced communication services on this single unified telco cloud,” said a spokesperson.
