Maxis to internally integrate Google Cloud’s GenAI

Malaysian telco Maxis announced on Monday at Mobile World Congress 2024 it has expanded its strategic collaboration with Google Cloud by integrating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) into its workflow and service offerings.

Maxis said it will leverage Google Cloud’s Duet AI for Developers platform for AI-powered coding assistance in natural language, as well as multimodal capabilities from the Gemini models on the Vertex AI platform, enable enterprise-grade GenAI within its internal and customer service environments.

Maxis CIO Ng May Ching said that integrating these platform capabilities will result in improved internal processes, productivity gains, new operational insights, and enhanced customer behaviour modelling.

"Embracing cutting-edge GenAI in our workplace not only automates processes but empowers employees to focus on strategic tasks while streamlining processes,” she said. “Through AI integration, we can enhance efficiency, elevate customer service with data-driven insights and foster continuous improvement.”

Adopting Google Cloud’s GenAI capabilities is also part of a broader strategy for Maxis to focus on adopting a holistic framework that integrates data, AI, and cybersecurity to enhance its digital resilience.

The collaboration deal will also see Maxis and Google Cloud developing applied GenAI solutions for data analytics and cybersecurity, and extend GenAI skilling opportunities and learnings to Maxis employees.

Maxis said it also plans to extend its experience with integrating GenAI to its community programmes, eKelas Usahawan and eKelas, to upskill individuals and school students in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The two companies announced the GenAI collaboration at MWC2024 in Barcelona, where Maxis is exhibiting as part of the Malaysia Pavilion. Maxis said it expects to formalise more partnerships during the eventas part of the Malaysian delegation.
